Dark cabinets and a sink you could not share became the cooking wall — six burners, slab backsplash, no grout lines to scrub.

Two closet doors and a spiral staircase became the wall that reads as a gallery — and is secretly a refrigerator, a freezer, a wine fridge and a pantry.

The spiral stair traded for a straight run of oak and steel, and the kitchen stopped hiding in its corner.

Same loft, straight down. The refrigerator lived in the middle of a U; now it is a square with an island — four walls, four jobs, nobody trapped behind the fridge door.
